About

Modern Greek restaurant in Old Montreal's Hôtel Nelligan, serving shareable mezze, wood charcoal-grilled octopus, lamb, and fresh whole fish alongside reimagined classics like moussaka and pastitsio with black truffle. Brunch, lunch, and dinner available, with an award-winning Greek wine cellar.

Mama C is modern Greek cooking on the ground floor of the historic Hôtel Nelligan, in the heart of Old Montreal — a restaurant named after Cristina, the mother of its four founders, and built around the language she spoke best: sharing, and gathering everyone around one table. Part of Corner Collection (the group behind Terrasse Nelligan, Kyo, and Brasserie 701) and set on rue Saint-Paul, it invites you to slow down and savour the moment, where the freshness of the Greek islands meets the warm generosity of the mainland and a distinctly contemporary Montreal sensibility. The room itself, designed by Montreal's Atelier Zébulon Perron and a Grand Winner at the Grands Prix du Design, transports guests to the land of olive groves — earthy tones, soft golden lighting, and an olive tree anchoring the space. The spirit is Mediterranean through and through — flavours that seem to have basked in the sun and come alive under a starlit sky — and the whole experience is conceived as a family meal, passed around plate by plate: a modern interpretation of Greek culinary heritage that celebrates, above all, the cherished bond between flavours and heritage.

At the heart of it is the evening menu, overseen by chefs Michalis Merzenis and Anastasios Roussis and cooked in large part over the restaurant's Mibrasa wood charcoal grill, which lends select dishes a rich, smoky depth and an open-flame tenderness. Everything is made to be shared — best expressed in The Mama C Experience, a four-course journey of six to eight plates ($125/pers, crafted around the day's arrivals, with the whole table taking part). The raw and cured selection is a highlight in itself: hamachi crudo cured in buttermilk, sea bream sashimi with Greek bottarga, spicy soutzoukakia steak tartare, Rockefeller oysters with Gruyère from Naxos, and, for the grand occasion, Osietra caviar and a lavish seafood platter. Spreads arrive with warm grilled pita — white tarama, Feneos fava cream, classic tzatziki, spicy kopanisti — before the grill takes over with wood-charcoal octopus over fava, shrimp saganaki, lamb chops, and showstopping large-format cuts like a 35oz bone-in rib steak, a 48oz lamb shoulder, whole lobster with hylopites, or the fresh whole fish of the day (lavraki, tsipoura, fagri). Classics are lovingly reimagined — moussaka, gigantes plaki, pastitsio with fresh black truffle, roasted aubergine papoutsaki — and the desserts stay true to the theme, from a Greek yogurt ice cream dressed simply with olive oil and Maldon salt to baklava mille-feuille, portokalopita, and warm bougatsa.

Mornings have their own character, too. Les expériences du matin run from a continental spread to the signature Nelligan breakfast — a fitting nod to the hotel above — alongside a Greek omelette with Graviera, Mama C benedicts under a feta hollandaise, tsoureki French toast, and a house-smoked salmon bagel built on a St-Viateur bagel — Québec's own terroir reimagined through the spirit of the Mediterranean. Weekend brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 3pm) and a table d'hôte lunch ($46) round out the day. To drink, there's a playful cocktail list — the watermelon Karpouzi Margarita, the citrus-and-orange Meltemi, a Greek-salad-tinged Mama César — plus thoughtful mocktails, and a genuinely serious cellar, honoured with the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2026, that dives deep into Greek varietals (Assyrtiko, Xinomavro, Malagousia, Mavrofilero) from Santorini to Naoussa, set beside France's and Italy's finest appellations and a wall of grand champagnes. The adjoining atrium lounge — the hotel bar — serves mezze and cocktails for happy hour or a late-night drink.

Warm, generous, and rooted in the Greek belief that the best meals are never the last, Mama C brings the Mediterranean way of life — its olive groves, its sunshine, its love of the shared table — to a beautiful address at 100 rue Saint-Paul Ouest, inside Hôtel Nelligan (with valet parking available). It's a place where every plate tells a story and every meal is meant to be lingered over: modern Greek cuisine, and a true taste of hospitality, in the heart of Old Montreal.
