Shanipiap (Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui), Innu singer-songwriter and storyteller, performs at Jardins Gamelin in Montréal on Friday, August 7, 2026, as part of IFPF 2026 Special Activities.
Shanipiap, the artistic name of Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui, is an Innu artist originally from Matimekush (near Schefferville) and now based in Wendake. A multi-faceted figure in Indigenous arts, she is a singer-songwriter, storyteller, host, television producer and author who has been composing and performing in the Innu language since the late 1970s.
Her debut album, 'La Lune du Labrador', was released in 1999. She later founded Productions Shanipiap and created the children's television series 'Les Découvertes de Shanipiap' for APTN and TFO. Her performance at Jardins Gamelin is part of the IFPF 2026 Special Activities programme.
